Re: Unaccepting Family Members #1 By patti stowe 8/20/2009 12:07:25 PM I have been homeschooling my 11 year from the beginning..and I have had the some of the same responses from my family as well as strangers. I have even had nosy neighbors call CPS on us because she wasn't in school. I am 43 years old, and have already raised one child who is now 25 and in the 8th grade was stalked by a school mate and we had to watch her personality change from an A and B student to not wanting to go school at all, not happening with this one, I basically tell all of them to mind their own business and to stay out of mine... Re: Unaccepting Family Members #2 By Tonya 10/6/2009 5:43:21 PM Within the past two weeks, I decided to remove my daughter (age 5) from her over-disciplined private school that also felt they needed to treat me as a student and "nose" into our family's life and tell us how to educate our child. I have not told my husband's family yet. I know they will not like the idea of homeschooling, but it is not conventional. Even though, I am working on my PhD, they might not feel I am capable. I have decided to tell them when the subject arises, the same thing I told the principal at the private academy-----I have decided to take an active role in my child's education. I am her parent and I will instruct her beyond the educational requirements of the state and I will do so with experiences not offered through any school.
