POETRY
First Day of Spring
The sun is shining,
Crocuses are smiling!
Birds are singing,
The grass is greening!
Enjoy the First Day of Spring!
-- by Jen T., age 15, Missouri
When the wind is whooshing
When the wind is whooshing,
What do you hear?
I hear wolves wailing loud and clear.
When the wind is whooshing
What do you fear?
I fear of the safety
of my family so kind and dear.
When the wind is whooshing
I lie in bed,
Thinking of the emotions
going on in my head.
So next time you
hear the wind whooshing
I want you to think,
What do you feel?
What makes your skin peel?
What do you hear?
What makes you fear?
Hmmmmmm?!!!!

Gentle rain falling through Sunlight.

My favorite is Rain-Light:
Diamonds glittering in the Daylight.

My Day
Up at eight,
Quick to dress.
Down the stairs,
Quick to eat.
Out the door,
Sprint to woods.
Wind rushes past,
Wind feels good.
Hop through creek,
Watch the frogs.
Climb the tree,
The frogs watch me.
Read my book,
Eat my apple.
Breathe sweet air,
Another happy day -- my way!

Summer Daze
Summer Daze makes me feel good,
Summer Daze helps me relax and dream,
Summer Daze takes me away,
Summer Daze is like floating down a stream.
Summer Daze... I see yellow and green,
Summer Daze... I see white and blue,
Summer Daze... I see sun and fields,
Summer Daze... I see soft billowy clouds, too.
Summer Daze brings watermelon and fruit trees,
Summer Daze brings hot dust and ice cream,
Summer Daze brings flowers and bees,
Summer Daze -- dreamy and free!

HAIKU
Autumn Haiku
Wind is very fast
Orange leaves falling to the ground
Trees waving goodbye.
-- Written by Sam, age 10
Colorful leaves fall
There are orange and yellow leaves
The trees wave and wave.
-- Written by Scott, age 12
Summer has now gone
And with a quick, icy yawn
Fall’s breeze snatches leaves.
-- Written by Renee, age 14
Autumn Leaves
The leaves are falling down
Forming an autumn crown
Gold, yellow, orange, and red
Circling my flower bed
Red, yellow, and colors untold
Form a wreath of autumn gold.
God's own gift to all the land
Crafted by His holy hand
Falling down on His green earth
Signaling white winter's birth.
-- Constance Chan
BOOK REVIEWS
Hoot by Carl Hiaasen
I like this book because it has lots of adventure, plus alligators, snakes, and owls. I liked the main characters, Roy and Mullet Fingers. I also liked the funny situations and silly tricks.
This book has an interesting plot, because of the way Mullet tries to protect the owls. The book is long, but if you like to read, I'd say it's worth reading for the fun and adventures.

Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo
This is one of my favorite books. I've read it over and over. It's kind of a sad book, but it's also a very good book.
I know what it's like to move to a place where you don't know anyone, so I felt what Opal felt. I have a dog, too, and I know how a dog can understand how you feel. And how dogs can help you feel a lot better and happier.
Winn-Dixie is a dog that is very special, because he helps Opal make new friends and feel good about her new life. I think Because of Winn-Dixie will make you feel good, too.

CREATIVE PROJECTS
My Spaceship
By Harrison Faux
One day in November I made a Lego space ship. It is big and has five crew men in it. It is grey and black and has blue windows and a blue canopy. It has lots of lights and buttons in it. It has eight engines. It also has eight phase banks and four missiles. I keep it under the bed.
-- Harrison, age 12, Yucaipa, CA
